  2. Much like their pals the Dream Syndicate, Green on Red used up nearly all their psychedelic influences early on, and 's Gas Food Lodging found Dan Stuart and company veering into country-inflected roots rock that dovetailed nicely with the populist themes Stuart had begun to explore in his lyrics.8/
  3. At the very least, the new Gas Food Lodging sounds cleaner and more full-bodied than its previous vinyl incarnation. Unfortunately, the Green on Red EP appears to have been salvaged from damaged tapes, with noticeable noise and occasional audio drop-outs; given its rarity, it's still a nice bonus, but the fidelity makes it sound all the more deficient compared to Gas Food Lodging.

  5. A time oh rotten and violent. Totally abandoning its primary véillités psychedelia, Green On Red succeeds with Gas Food Lodging album oh significant indie rock 80s For though unnoticed at the time, Gas Food Lodging subsequently became a continuous source inspiration for Wilco, Giant Sand and the whole alternative-country scene.

  7. Though cheaply done, Green on Red is a singular debut. By the time Gas Food Lodging was recorded, Green on Red had been joined by guitarist Chuck Prophet IV, whose virtuosity anchored the group with glorious tracks such as "That's What Dreams Were Made For" and "Hair of the Dog" are rock & roll at its most gratifyingly scabrous. --Andrew Mueller/5(6).
  8. I don't think I've ever brought the topic of Green On Red up on Wilfully Obscure, save for maybe a comparison, save for maybe a passing repdisttricabpotvewarmneserhungnedi.coinfo my money, only G on R's first two eps really moved me (those and perhaps their much lauded Gas, Food, Lodging album on occasion). Still, I sprang for this promo 12" ep when I ran into it at a local shop a few days ago.
